CMRD has organized 'Aids awareness programme' for the students. Mrs.Medha Sasane M.Pharm., MS, from WISCONSIN - MADISON UNIVERSITY ,USA conducted the programme on 30th August'06. The Objective of this programme is to provide accurate information about HIV/AIDS and to create awareness among the students by exploring myths & attitudes about aids and thus reducing their risk of exposure to HIV. Such awareness programme is the need of the hour and is the right step in controlling disease, as AIDS is termed as one of the biggest public health challenges in the world.

The session starts with a survey to assess the awareness, attitudes, and beliefs of the young generation towards HIV/AIDS. A survey was conducted with a questionnaire titled 'HIV Testing Survey' to assess the awareness level about HIV/AIDS in young generation.

The presentation given by Mrs.Sasane covers information about AIDS, Methods of transmission- including high-risk behaviors- and methods of prevention, society's attitude towards HIV/AIDS etc.

Mrs.Medha Sasane informed the students that India has the second highest number of people living with HIV/AIDS in the world after South Africa. It is matter of concern that from high-risk groups, HIV/AIDS is moving towards general public. It is important that steps should be taken in the right directions to fight with this disease and it can be achieved by spreading right information in the society.

The session concluded with question-answer session. Mrs.Sasane clarified all doubts of students relating to this disease.
